I really like the Smileys that he has and I’m going to be adding them to my plugin’s archive as Smileys Lists as long as Matt doesn’t have any problems with that … I hope not! I like the advanced features of my plugin but it really lacks more interesting Smileys plus since his plugin uses Short Smileys Tags only, converting his Smilies Packages into Smileys Lists will add more Short Smileys Tags for the user to use! It’s late now so I’m off to bed, night.

I have just about finished adding the new features that Aidan had given the ideas for as listed here. This is a MAJOR release of WP Smileys Plugin for WordPress. This release adds many new features and security to the orginal plugin. In this release, the most notiable change is the new options page. Here you will be able to set if comments can use smileys, if to use the WP Comment Quicktags Plus Plugin’s quicktags toolbar to add a Smileys Button, which smileys that will be allowed for the Admin Write Pages and allowed in posts, and finally which smileys that will be allowed for the Comment Form and allowed in comments. Also there is an added security to what smileys will be processed and displayed in posts or comments depending on which smiley lists are enabled.

What’s Next?
Well the code for the next release has already been put in place, the only thing that I need to do is add a Manage Smileys Management Page that will allow the user(s) to add, edit, customize, and remove all of the smileys that can be used. I will also add to the WP Smileys Option Page an option for the min. user level so that only certain users can control the settings of WP Smileys.

Would Be Nice …
It would be neat to be able to allow some type of access control to the settings so that users could create their own smileys list to use and display, somewhat like that WP uses to control the posts, categories, and settings for users. That would be alot of work and code, but maybe possible … right now I’m not going to worry about working on that. My main concern is to another plugin that I’m working on, the File Press Plugin.

So here is all the good stuff …

You may download the new plugin below:
wp-smileys-2.0.zip

Everyone thank Aidan who made a comment here with some great ideas. Well here they are Aidan, ruffly …

An additional note, starting in version 1.7 of WP Smileys there will be a new feature to configure. It has to do with the display of the Smileys page. Like the directions say above, at the bottom half of this file is where you configure what is displayed for the Smileys page. The only difference from prevous version of WP Smileys is that version 1.7 now features the option to make the Admin Write Pages’ Smileys to be different then the Comment Form Smileys. Go where you configure what is displayed normally and you will see two new notes as to where to edit the calls for your Smileys Page for the Admin Write Page and the Comment Form. Now this version is just a temp version until I have completed an options page for WP Smileys where you can configure all of the settings for this plugin. Also there will hopefully be a Management Page where you can add, edit, manage, and remove smileys lists.

I will be working on the rest of the new features and hopefully I’ll have them done soon, but until then …

You may download the new plugin below:
wp-smileys-1.7.zip

I hope you like this new feature, and the soon to come options page and management page. Also, Please everyone comment as to what you would like to see and if these features are something that you would like. Thanks!

If you would like to see what it looks like, first go to the comments section and click on the Smileys button and you will see (right now) only the Thunderbird Smileys. Then to see the Admin Write Pages Smileys, click here. I know that this really isn’t that secure if you really want to block the smileys, but it will do for now. You see, for the admin smileys I just add an “?action=admin” to the end of the url and the smileys popup file checks for it to display the admin smileys settins else it just shows the comment form smileys settings. Also, if the commenter knows the smiley tag for the smiley that they want and puts it in the comment, it will still be proccessed. I could try to add a more secure way to do the different smileys but that would take alot more coding. Let me know what you think, if I should try to add a more secure way … Thanks again.

I updated my WP Smileys plugin to 1.6 now. I changed the styles in my WP Comment Quicktags Plus plugin and so needed to correct the styles in WP Smileys. I also just realized that I had the styles just going into the style.css file in your theme directory, but if you want to style the admin write pages smileys button, you have to add a style to the wp-admin.css file in your wp-admin folder. Please let me know what you think and if you have any problems.

You may download the new plugin below:
wp-smileys-1.6.zip

New Update !
I just noticed that in my last update, I forgot to change the version # in the actual popup window for the smileys. So instead of making a new version release just for this, I just corrected the version # and updated the zip file with all the new files. Now everyone that downloaded wp-smileys-1.6.zip BEFORE May 6, 2005 at 8:45 needs to re-download the plugin again to get the correct files BUT you don’t have to if you don’t want to. You can manually change it by going into the wp-smileys-popup.php, go all the way to the end of the file, find line 214, and edit the line where it says the verison # and correct the # to be 1.6 instead of 1.5 and that’s it. Sorry about this, I just over looked in the last update.

New Update ! … AGAIN
This goes to BOK. Thanks for pointing out that version # change on line ~140. Well I just changed that line’s version # in the title of the page. Just redownload the plugin again.
